Global Social Media Director – Raleigh, NC

The Global Corporate Social Media Director will focus on high-level social media strategy and governance. This position will work closely with senior leaders of the corporate communications team and agency partners to develop a social media engagement strategy for target audiences and key segments. A crucial responsibility of this role will be managing and leading agency relationships in social media strategies, social executive visibility programs and platforms.

The Global Social Media Director, reporting to the Vice President, Head of Global Communications, oversees the Global Corporate Social Media Sr. Manager and partners closely with the Global Communications Sr. Director, as well as the rest of the communications team, to drive a best-in-class social media program.

Responsibilities: Global Social Media Director

Leadership & Innovation

  • Build social media team covering strategy, engagement and analytics infrastructure, based on best-in-class strategies; remain at the forefront of emerging trends, solutions and best practices
  • Ensure ongoing research and monitoring inform continuous improvement and optimization
  • Stay informed of trends and best practices to drive industry leadership in the social media space
  • Advocate for new ideas through proven thought leadership and expertise
  • Pilot new thinking and tactics on social media, globally and for key markets

Strategy

  • Develop and oversee execution of strategy that aligns with organizational imperatives and overall purpose
  • Develop and oversee execution of strategy tailored to key executive-level leadership profiles
  • Prioritize KPIs that drive impact for the business and ensure content is reaching key defined audiences
  • Oversee monitoring and reporting
  • Collaborate with digital marketing on multi-touch attribution journeys

Execution

  • Lead team of best-in-class social media distribution for paid, owned and earned corporate channels, as well as social profiles for key leadership
  • Develop analytics program in partnership with agency analysts to continually monitor channel performance, trends and insights on social media and a process for socializing among the communications team and other key stakeholders
  • Define and attract key audiences and use insights to collaborate on relevant content development
  • Work with key agency partners on updating and creating structural elements, guidelines, policies and ways of working related to social media

Governance

  • Collaborate cross-functionally within the organization to ensure necessary governance is in place to run a global social media program
  • Manage ongoing updates of tools and policies to best suit the organization, its social media leads and online communities
  • Oversee implementation of policies, tools and best practices throughout the global organization
  • Work closely with legal and regulatory, as well as other internal stakeholders, to ensure accuracy and mitigate risk with all content and procedures

Research, Analytics & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain robust research and analytics program for social media in partnership with social media agency
  • Analyze data and share relevant reports within the communications team and throughout the organization to educate stakeholders on social media efforts and provide insights into key audiences
  • Ensure all initiatives have clearly defined KPIs that align with organizational goals and are sufficiently tracked

Collaboration

  • Set best practices and lead collaboration with regional communications colleagues to ensure they have support and resources to maximize social media throughout their regions
  • Partner with key internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization to set strategies and maximize content
  • Build relationships with external stakeholders to foster online engagement
  • Provide strategic advice/counsel
  • Advise stakeholders on best social media solutions to achieve their goals and those of the organization
  • Build strong relationships internally and establish reputation as a thought leader throughout the organization, providing a forum for information sharing and alignment of key initiatives

Team Planning

  • Contribute to the annual strategic corporate communications planning process, as well as ongoing strategic planning and prioritization activities
  • Play an active role in identifying and implementing processes, tools and strategies that contribute to a high-functioning team
  • Manage best-in-class social media department

Agency Management

  • Oversee and partner with agencies to deliver strategies and execute quality work within budget

Required Skills & Experience: Global Social Media Director

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years social media management experience
  • 4+ years direct people management and proven track record of developing and mentoring teams
  • Experience in global or cross-regional social media role
  • Expertise in executive thought leadership and leveraging of social platforms to further drive visibility and engagement for individuals
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously with high attention to detail
  • Ability to navigate a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Deadline-driven focus and ability to maintain superior quality under tight deadlines
  • Strong project and time management, planning and content development capabilities
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exceptional presentation proficiency with ability to deliver to all group sizes and organizational levels
