MarketPro has partnered with an international travel company in Atlanta, GA in search of a contract Data Scientist/Customer Analytics. We are currently seeking someone who will apply sophisticated statistical methods to model customer behavioral, transactional, and geo/demographic data to optimize effectiveness of marketing campaigns and provide actionable customer insights to impacted stakeholders. This role will develop complex predictive models based on multi-dimensional view of the customer, identify trends, score customer segments, and define next best product to drive value to the customer and the business. The candidate will be self-motivated and have hands-on expertise in statistical packages and advanced analytics tools such as SAS, R, Aster, Hyperion, Python, and others. The Data Scientist/Statistician will have strong business acumen, ability work independently, and simultaneously handle multiple projects in a fast paced and changing environment. This role will effectively interact with a diverse array of internal and external partners documenting and presenting findings to business leaders to determine marketing and revenue strategies and tactics, and be a critical corporate resource and recognized expert in quantitative and analytical modeling techniques.


  • Assisting in business problem identification and utilizing advanced quantitative methods from the fields of statistics, operations research, and economics to identify opportunities to bring value to both the customer and the business and influence decision making
  • Knowledge discovery and data mining in large datasets, including traditional relational databases as well as newer, non-traditional data sources (i.e. “Big Data”)
  • Data extraction and transformation from multiple data sources to develop analytical datasets to support statistical modeling using knowledge of both software (e.g., SAS, Aster, R, Teradata) and programming languages such as SQL
  • Development of complex predictive models (e.g., propensity to upsell, attrition/retention, churn forecasting, offer optimization, customer value analysis, etc.) that require the use of statistical modeling balanced with business knowledge
  • Determining the appropriate statistical methods and/or approach to best satisfy the relevant business need (e.g., generalized linear models, linear, logistic and/or Poisson regression; survival analysis, econometrics, microeconomics, utility theory and profit maximization, Markov processes, time series forecasting, non-parametric methods, longitudinal data analysis, data mining, machine learning, design of experiments, statistical sampling, and hypothesis generation and testing)
  • Clustering and segmentation analyses using transactional and complex customer-level behavioral data
  • Project prioritization and collaboration with internal and external business partners
  • Creation of documentation and presentation of advanced analytics work to leadership and other stakeholders Validation of model performance, quality, and reliability over time using best practices


  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 5 years of experience with statistical modeling and data mining using large and complex datasets Demonstrated experience using methods such as logistic regression, linear regression, clustering, and classification/regression/decision trees
  • Use of machine learning algorithms is required Ability to independently develop, test, and validate statistical models is required
  • Strong SAS coding/programming skills: Data step, Macro language, table/variable considerations for large data sets and general SAS Procedures (SAS/STAT), particularly PROC SQL, including SAS Enterprise Miner
  • Hands-on experience with SQL using Teradata and/or other relational databases is required
  • Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently for a marketing staffing position
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities
  • Good time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to own and complete assignments working around/through impediments
  • Committed to high quality results with capability to QA own work using established and novel best practices Experience and proficiency in R, Matlab, Minitab, STATA, SPSS, and other statistical packages is strongly preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of travel industry and/or loyalty programs is a plus
